A Few Words About Pricing
With this new season (Spring/Summer 2019) we wrestled long and hard over one important thing: raising our prices. I wanted to take a moment to say a few words about this because it's important to me to be as open, upfront and honest about this as possible.
When I started out, I wanted to sell products that were beautifully made, ethically made, and as affordable as possible for the average person or parent. Over the past few years as our business has grown, I have learned a lot more about this industry, about running a business in general and about fair pricing markups. Pulp Co started as a side project, but has become a full time job and takes a lot more hustle to maintain. I’ve realized that I can't meet a growing level of demand unless I am able to pay myself a true living wage and also allow room for future growth. In other words, we've grown to realize that a product cannot always be beautiful, ethical and affordable.
We want to make you the most beautiful hat you've ever owned. We spend a long time designing, printing, tracing, cutting and sewing your hats together by hand. We source only the finest, organic, US grown fabrics we can find. Each item passes through our hands a hundred times before it goes into a box and ships out to you. We want to make you a hat that you will keep and pass down forever and we work hard to maintain the highest level of craftsmanship.
Our business is dedicated to the highest standard of ethical manufacturing. We don’t believe in sourcing unfair, cheap labor from foreign countries. While cultural trends are shifting, we are still living in a time of fast produced and mass produced goods that sell cheap but do more harm than good for our global family and our environment. We are committed to creating products that do no harm. Since we cannot budge on the quality of our products or the manner in which they are produced, we simply cannot compete with the prices you see in the store. The beautiful materials we use and the quality of our craftsmanship are not cheap and our pricing has to reflect the true cost of what goes into making them.
I hope you will see enough value in our work and in the products we make to understand why they are priced as they are. We are so thankful for every order, for our growing audience, and for the chance to do something we love every day. It inspires us to see you invest in products that are made thoughtfully and with integrity. Thank you so much for reading this.
